Salil Parekh
Salil Parekh (born 5 June 1964) is an Indian business executive and the current Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Infosys, a global IT services company. He assumed the role on 2 January 2018, succeeding interim CEO U B Pravin Rao. With decades of experience in the consulting and IT services sector, Parekh is known for his leadership in digital transformation and business growth across geographies.[1]
Early Life and Education
Salil Parekh was born in India and pursued his undergraduate education in Aeronautical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. He later earned a Master of Engineering degree in Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering from Cornell University, USA. His academic credentials laid the foundation for a distinguished global career in technology and consulting.[2]
Career
Before joining Infosys, Parekh worked at Ernst & Young’s consulting division, which later merged into Capgemini. At Capgemini, he held multiple leadership roles over his long tenure starting from 2000. He became a member of the group management board and was appointed as Deputy CEO in March 2015. He was responsible for overseeing several business units, including Application Services and Cloud Infrastructure Services.
In January 2018, Parekh was appointed as the CEO and MD of Infosys, becoming one of the few external leaders to take the helm of the iconic Indian IT fi[3]rm. His tenure has focused on scaling digital capabilities, expanding global client partnerships, and enhancing Infosys' strategic presence across markets.[4]
Whistleblower Allegations
In 2019, Infosys received two anonymous whistleblower complaints alleging unethical practices involving senior management, including Salil Parekh. The Audit Committee of the Board of Directors initiated a thorough and independent investigation with support from legal firm Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co. and PricewaterhouseCoopers Private Ltd. The committee concluded that the allegations were substantially without merit.[5]
