Pawan Singh
Pawan Singh (born 5 January 1986) is an Indian playback vocalist, actor and entertainer who has been a dominant figure in Bhojpuri music and cinema for over two decades. Celebrated for his energetic stage persona and powerful voice, he rose to national recognition with songs such as Lollipop Lagelu and has since appeared in numerous commercially successful Bhojpuri films. In recent years Singh has also extended his presence into Hindi playback singing and public life.[1]
Early life and education
Pawan Singh was born in Jokahri village near Arrah in Bihar. Raised in a rural household, he developed an interest in music early — learning harmonium and performing at local gatherings. His family moved between locations early in his life and he completed his schooling before enrolling at Maharaja College in Arrah for higher studies. Singh’s formative years — balancing education and frequent stage performances — shaped his work ethic and stagecraft.[2]
Career
Music and stage
Singh began recording and performing professionally in the late 1990s. His debut Bhojpuri album established him in regional music circuits; however, it was the widespread popularity of the track Lollipop Lagelu (2008) that cemented his status as a pan-regional star. Known for high-energy live shows, Singh became a staple performer at cultural festivals, concerts and stage events across India and overseas. He has released multiple albums and singles, recorded devotional tracks and adapted popular Hindi songs for Bhojpuri audiences.
Singh has also collaborated with mainstream composers and artists, leading to Hindi singles and Bollywood playback assignments. His versatility—ranging from folk-infused Bhojpuri tracks to party anthems and devotional songs—has broadened his appeal beyond regional listeners.[3]
Film career
Transitioning into films, Pawan Singh built a successful acting career in Bhojpuri cinema with lead roles in titles such as Pratigya, Crack Fighter, Sher Singh, and many more. His screen image as an action-romance star complemented his musical identity and made him one of the industry’s most bankable performers.
Foray into Hindi music and collaborations
In the late 2010s and early 2020s Singh worked on a number of Hindi singles and collaborative projects, partnering with established composers and singers. These projects increased his visibility in mainstream music markets and introduced Bhojpuri stylings to wider audiences.
Politics and public life
Pawan Singh's popularity has also translated into political attention. He was briefly named a BJP candidate for Asansol Lok Sabha seat in 2024 before withdrawing. In 2025 he contested from Bihar’s Karakat constituency as an independent after reporting differences with party leadership; the episode led to his expulsion from the BJP for alleged anti-party activity. His political involvement drew significant media coverage and highlighted his influence among regional voters, though it also sparked debate about entertainers entering electoral politics.[4][5]
