Ishant Sharma (born 2 September 1988) is an Indian cricketer who has represented India in Tests, One Day Internationals (ODIs), and Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). He is known for his height, pace, and accuracy as a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He has been one of India's leading pacers and has bowled at speeds exceeding 150 km/h on multiple occasions.[1]

In 2011, he became one of the youngest players to take 100 Test wickets. In February 2021, he reached the milestone of 300 Test wickets. He was also part of the Indian team that won the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. In 2020, he was awarded the Arjuna Award for his contributions to cricket.[2]

Early Life

Ishant Sharma was born in Delhi, India, into a Brahmin family. He developed an interest in cricket at a young age and pursued it seriously during his teenage years. He played domestic cricket for Delhi and quickly gained recognition for his pace and bounce.[3]

Domestic Career

Sharma represents Delhi in domestic cricket. He impressed early in his first-class career with consistent performances, including notable five-wicket hauls. His performances in domestic cricket and youth tours helped him secure a place in the national team.[4]

International Career

Early Years (2007–2010)

Ishant made his Test debut in 2007 against Bangladesh. He gained major attention during India's tour of Australia in 2008, where he delivered an exceptional spell against Ricky Ponting in Perth, helping India secure a famous victory.

During the same period, he performed well in ODIs, including a match-winning performance against Australia in the CB Series.[5]

Rise and Milestones (2011–2021)

In 2011, Sharma reached 100 Test wickets, becoming one of the youngest players to achieve the milestone. Over the years, he became a key part of India's bowling attack.

In 2014, he achieved his career-best figures of 7/74 against England at Lord's, leading India to victory. In 2015, he reached 200 Test wickets and continued to perform consistently in overseas conditions.

In February 2021, he played his 100th Test match and also completed 300 Test wickets, becoming one of India's most successful fast bowlers.

IPL Career

Ishant Sharma has played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for teams such as Kolkata Knight Riders, Deccan Chargers, Kings XI Punjab, and Delhi Capitals. He was among the highest-paid bowlers in the early IPL auctions.
