Dheeraj Dhoopar (born 20 December 1984) is an Indian television actor and former model. He is best known for portraying Prem Bharadwaj in Sasural Simar Ka and Karan Luthra in Kundali Bhagya. With a career spanning over a decade, Dhoopar has become one of the most recognisable and successful leading actors in Indian daily television dramas.

Early Life and Background

Dheeraj Dhoopar was born in New Delhi into a Punjabi Hindu family. From an early age, he showed an interest in fashion and performance. Before entering the entertainment industry, he pursued an advanced course in fashion designing and also worked briefly as an airline cabin crew member. His experience in aviation helped shape his confident personality and professional discipline.[1]

Career

Dhoopar began his career as a model, appearing in more than 100 television commercials for brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Parker Pens, Dabur Honey, Samsung Galaxy, and Videocon. His visibility in advertising led to opportunities in television acting.[2]

He made his acting debut in 2009 with Maat Pitaah Ke Charnon Mein Swarg, playing Ansh Tripathi. He subsequently appeared in shows including Behenein, Mrs. Tendulkar, Zindagi Kahe – Smile Please, and made a cameo in Kuch Toh Log Kahenge.

His breakthrough role came in 2013 when he was cast as Prem Bharadwaj in Sasural Simar Ka. His performance earned him widespread recognition and several awards. In 2017, he took on the role of Karan Luthra in Zee TV’s Kundali Bhagya, a show that became one of Indian television’s highest-rated serials. He played the character for over five years, becoming a household name.[3]

Apart from fiction shows, Dhoopar has worked as a host on reality programs such as Sa Re Ga Ma Pa and Dance India Dance 7. He also made special appearances in Naagin 5 and Haiwaan: The Monster.

Recent Work

In 2022, Dhoopar took a paternity break following the birth of his son. He later participated in Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 10 but exited early due to health issues. From 2022 to 2023, he starred in Sherdil Shergill opposite Surbhi Chandna.[4]

In late 2023, he portrayed a grey-shaded character in Saubhagyavati Bhava: Niyam Aur Shartein Laagu. In 2024, he appeared in Rabb Se Hai Dua as Subhaan Siddiqui, marking a shift from his traditional romantic lead roles.

He has also featured in several popular music videos and made his web series debut in 2023 with Tatlubaaz.

Personal Life

Dheeraj Dhoopar married actress Vinny Arora on 16 November 2016. The couple welcomed their first child, a son, in August 2022. He is known for maintaining a private yet family-oriented personal life.

Dhoopar has received multiple awards, including the Indian Television Academy Award for Best Actor (Popular) and several Gold Awards for his role in Kundali Bhagya. He has also been listed among The Times Most Desirable Men on TV.
