Shruti Rajalakshmi Haasan (born 28 January 1986) is an Indian actress and musician who predominantly works in Telugu, Tamil and Hindi films. She is among the highest-paid actresses in Indian cinema and has received several awards, including Filmfare Awards South and SIIMA Awards. She has also featured in the Forbes India Celebrity 100 list.[1]
Early Life and Education
Shruti Haasan was born in Madras (now Chennai), Tamil Nadu, into a prominent film family. She is the daughter of actor-filmmaker Kamal Haasan and actress Sarika Thakur. Her younger sister, Akshara Haasan, is also an actress.
She completed her schooling at Lady Andal School in Chennai and later moved to Mumbai, where she studied psychology at St. Andrew's College. Haasan later pursued music and cinema, studying at the Musicians Institute in California before returning to India.[2]
Career
Debut and Early Career (2000; 2009–2011)
Haasan first appeared as a child artist in Hey Ram. She made her debut as a lead actress with the Hindi film Luck (2009). Though the film received negative reviews, it marked her entry into mainstream cinema.
In 2011, she made her Telugu debut with Anaganaga O Dheerudu and her Tamil debut with 7 Aum Arivu. Her performances in both films earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut – South.[3]
Breakthrough (2012–2013)
Her breakthrough came with the Tamil film 3 (2012), where she gained recognition for her performance. She further established herself with the Telugu blockbuster Gabbar Singh (2012).
In 2013, she appeared in successful films such as Balupu and gained appreciation for her role in the Hindi film D-Day.
Commercial Success (2014–2020)
Haasan achieved major success with films such as Yevadu (2014), Race Gurram (2014), and Srimanthudu (2015). Her performance in Race Gurram earned her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress – Telugu.[4]
