C Vijayakumar is an Indian business executive and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Managing Director of HCLTech, a leading global technology company. He was appointed CEO in October 2016 and took on the additional role of Managing Director in July 2021. Vijayakumar is recognized for his leadership in driving digital transformation and expanding HCLTech’s global footprint.[1]
Early Life and Education
C Vijayakumar was born in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. He completed his schooling at The Lawrence School in Lovedale, Ooty. He pursued a degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from PSG College of Technology, Tamil Nadu. His technical education and early interest in computing laid a strong foundation for his future in the IT industry. He currently resides in New Jersey, USA.[2]
Career
Vijayakumar joined HCLTech in 1994 as a senior technical engineer in the founding startup team of HCL Comnet, a key infrastructure services unit. Over the years, he climbed the ranks within the organization due to his deep understanding of infrastructure services and operational excellence.[3]
Prior to becoming CEO, he served as the President of HCL's Infrastructure Services Division, where he played a pivotal role in making HCLTech a global leader in the space. In July 2016, he was appointed as the Chief Operating Officer (COO). Just three months later, in October 2016, he was promoted to CEO, succeeding Anant Gupta.
Under his leadership, HCLTech has accelerated its growth in digital, cloud, engineering, and cybersecurity services. He is widely credited with modernizing the company’s delivery models and strengthening client relationships across sectors.[4]
