Henry William Dalgliesh Cavill (born 5 May 1983) is a British actor. He is best known for portraying Superman in the DC Extended Universe and Geralt of Rivia in the Netflix series The Witcher.[1]
Early life
Henry Cavill was born in Saint Helier, Jersey, in the Channel Islands. He was raised in a Catholic family and is the fourth of five brothers.
His mother, Marianne Dalgliesh, worked as a bank secretary, while his father, Colin Cavill, was a stockbroker.[2]
He studied at St Michael's Preparatory School in Jersey and later attended Stowe School in Buckinghamshire. During his school years, he was active in drama and sports, including rugby and field hockey.
Career
Early career (2001–2010)
Henry Cavill began his acting career with a role in Laguna (2001). He followed this with roles in The Count of Monte Cristo (2002) and television appearances in The Inspector Lynley Mysteries and Midsomer Murders.[3]
He gained recognition for his role as Charles Brandon in the historical drama series The Tudors (2007–2010). The show brought him critical attention and helped establish his career.
Breakthrough and Superman (2011–2023)
Cavill rose to global fame when he was cast as Superman in Man of Steel (2013). He reprised the role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016) and Justice League (2017).
His portrayal of Superman became one of the most recognized roles of his career. He also appeared in cameo roles in Black Adam (2022) and The Flash (2023).
During this period, he also starred in films such as The Man from U.N.C.L.E. (2015) and Mission: Impossible – Fallout (2018).
From 2019 to 2023, he played Geralt of Rivia in the fantasy series The Witcher, which became a major streaming success.
Recent work (2024–present)
In 2024, Cavill starred in Argylle and The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare.
He has also been involved in developing projects related to the Warhammer 40,000 universe and continues to work in international film and streaming productions.[4]
Philanthropy
Henry Cavill supports several charitable organizations. He serves as an ambassador for The Royal Marines Charity and supports wildlife conservation through the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust.
He has also participated in fundraising campaigns and charity events focused on veterans and children.

Henry Cavill lives in London. He was previously engaged to Ellen Whitaker.
He is in a relationship with Natalie Viscuso, and the couple has a daughter.
Cavill is known for his interest in video games and is an avid PC gamer. He is also a fan of Warhammer 40,000 and The Witcher game series.
