Radhika Gupta
Radhika Gupta (born 14 September 1983) is an Indian business executive and investor who serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Edelweiss Mutual Fund. She is widely recognized for her leadership in India’s asset management industry and for her inspiring personal journey overcoming physical and emotional challenges.
Gupta is often referred to as “the girl with the broken neck”, a phrase she used in a well-known motivational talk describing her life story and the challenges she overcame.
Early Life and Family
Radhika Gupta was born on 14 September 1983 in Islamabad, Pakistan. Her father, Yogesh Gupta, served as an officer in the Indian Foreign Service. Because of her father's diplomatic career, Gupta spent much of her childhood living in different countries.[1]
Her mother, Arti Gupta, worked as a school principal and played an important role in shaping Gupta’s educational journey.
Radhika was born with a permanent tilt in her neck due to complications at birth. The condition made her self-conscious during childhood and she experienced bullying in school. Over time, she embraced her uniqueness and later used her story to inspire others.[2]
Education
Radhika Gupta pursued higher education in the United States. She was admitted to the Jerome Fisher Program in Management and Technology at the University of Pennsylvania.
She completed:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Computer Science) from the University of Pennsylvania School of Engineering and Applied Science
- Bachelor of Science in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania
She graduated in 2005 with academic distinction.[3]
Career
Early Career
After completing her education, Gupta began her career in the financial sector. She initially faced multiple job rejections and struggled during the early stage of her career.[4]
She later joined McKinsey & Company as a business analyst, where she gained experience in consulting and strategic problem-solving.
She also worked at AQR Capital Management, focusing on investment strategies and portfolio management.
Entrepreneurship
In 2009, Radhika Gupta returned to India and co-founded Forefront Capital Management with her husband Nalin Moniz and a colleague.
The firm focused on asset management and investment strategies. In 2014, the company was acquired by Edelweiss Financial Services Limited.[5]
Edelweiss Mutual Fund
After the acquisition, Gupta joined Edelweiss Asset Management and played a key role in expanding the company’s investment business.
In 2017, she became the Managing Director and CEO of Edelweiss Asset Management Company.
During her leadership:
- The company launched the Bharat Bond ETF in 2019, India’s first corporate bond exchange-traded fund.
- Edelweiss Mutual Fund significantly increased its Assets Under Management (AUM).
- The company strengthened its presence in India’s retail investment market.
She also helped integrate the onshore business of JPMorgan Asset Management into Edelweiss.
Industry Leadership
Gupta has also served on the board of the Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). She was the Vice Chairperson of the organization from 2021 to 2023.
Shark Tank India
In 2023, Radhika Gupta appeared as an investor on Shark Tank India Season 3. On the show, she mentored entrepreneurs and invested in promising startups.
Her presence on the program increased her visibility among young entrepreneurs and the startup community.
Personal Life
Radhika Gupta is married to Nalin Moniz. The couple has a child named Remy Gupta Moniz.
