Ajay Devgn is an Indian film actor, producer and director who predominantly works in Hindi cinema. Widely regarded as one of the finest actors in the Indian film industry, he is known for films such as Gangaajal, Raid, Raajneeti, Singham Returns and Drishyam. In recognition of his contribution to Indian cinema, he was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India.

Early Life and Family

Ajay Devgn was born as Vishal Veeru Devgn on 2 April 1969 in New Delhi, India. He is the son of Veeru Devgn, a renowned stunt choreographer and director, and Veena Devgn, a film producer. He grew up in a film-oriented environment, which influenced his early exposure to cinema and action choreography.[1]

He completed his schooling at Silver Beach High School in Mumbai and later graduated in Commerce from Mithibai College, Mumbai.

Personal Life

Ajay Devgn married actress Kajol on 24 February 1999. The couple has two children, a daughter named Nysa Devgn and a son named Yug Devgn. Despite being public figures, they maintain a relatively private family life.[2]

Career

Early Career

Ajay Devgn began his acting career as a child artist in the 1985 film Pyari Behna. His breakthrough came with the action film Phool Aur Kaante (1991), which was a major commercial success. His performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut and established him as a leading action hero.[3]

Critical Acclaim and National Awards

In 1998, Devgn starred in Zakhm, for which he received his first National Film Award for Best Actor. He won his second National Award for portraying Bhagat Singh in The Legend of Bhagat Singh (2002). Over the years, he gained critical acclaim for films such as Company, Gangaajal, Apaharan, Omkara and Raajneeti.

In 2020, he won his third National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in the historical action film Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior, which was a major box-office success.[4]
