Sudhanshu Pandey is an Indian actor, singer and producer who has worked across Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Punjabi cinema, as well as Indian television. With a career spanning more than three decades, he is known for successfully bridging films, music and television. He rose to nationwide popularity for portraying Vanraj Shah in the television series Anupamaa.

Early life and background

Sudhanshu Pandey was born on 22 August 1974. He has described himself as having mixed cultural roots, with his mother belonging to a Punjabi background. From an early age, he showed an inclination towards creative arts, which later guided his professional choices.[1]

Before entering acting, Pandey built a successful career as a fashion model during the 1990s, becoming one of the most recognizable male models of his time. His modeling success opened doors to television and film opportunities.

Entry into acting

Pandey made his television debut in 1999 with the series Beta. The same year, he appeared in the music video Maikhane Se Sharab Se from Pankaj Udhas’s album Mahek, which helped him gain wider recognition.[2]

His Bollywood debut came with Khiladi 420 (2000), where he played a prominent role opposite Akshay Kumar. The film’s commercial success established him as a promising actor in mainstream Hindi cinema.

Music career

In the early 2000s, Sudhanshu Pandey became a founding member of India’s first boy band, A Band of Boys. Their debut album Yeh Bhi Woh Bhi (2002) gained significant popularity among young audiences.[3]

In 2005, Pandey left the band to focus on acting and financial stability. In 2024, he rejoined the band for its reunion album A Band of Boys: Reignite, marking his return to music after nearly two decades.

He has also released solo music, including the single Dil Ki Tu Zameen (2023), which he produced and performed in.[4]

Film career

Over the years, Pandey expanded his work across multiple film industries. His notable Hindi films include Singh Is Kinng, Murder 2, Tell Me O Kkhuda, Bypass Road and 2.0. In 2.0 (2018), he portrayed Dhinendra Bohra alongside Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar.

In Tamil cinema, he received acclaim for his performances in Billa II (2012) as Abbasi and Meaghamann (2014). His role in Billa II earned him a SIIMA Award nomination for Best Actor in a Negative Role.

Television success

Sudhanshu Pandey’s most prominent television role came in 2020 with the Star Plus series Anupamaa. His portrayal of Vanraj Shah, a complex and layered character, received widespread critical and audience appreciation.

The show became one of the most-watched television series in India, and Pandey’s performance earned him several accolades, including Gold Awards and Indian Television Academy Awards. He remained part of the show until August 2024.

He also appeared in the web prequel Anupama: Namaste America (2022), streaming on Disney+ Hotstar.

Reality television and recent work

In 2025, Pandey participated in the Prime Video reality competition The Traitors India, finishing in fourth place. His appearance showcased a candid and strategic side of his personality, introducing him to a wider digital audience.

Alongside acting, he continues to work on music projects and production ventures under his banner Raw Stock Production Pvt. Ltd.

Personal life

Sudhanshu Pandey has been married to Mona Pandey since 1996. The couple has two sons, Nirvaan and Vivaan Pandey. He has often spoken about discipline, introspection and balance between personal and professional life.
