Mohammed Siraj (born 13 March 1994) is an Indian international cricketer known for his aggressive pace bowling and ability to swing the ball at high speed. He represents the Indian national cricket team across formats and plays for Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Early Life

Mohammed Siraj was born in Hyderabad, Telangana, into a modest family. His father, Mohammed Ghouse, worked as an autorickshaw driver, while his mother, Shabana Begum, is a homemaker.[1]

Siraj began playing tennis-ball cricket in his neighbourhood and only started bowling with a proper leather cricket ball during his teenage years. Despite financial difficulties, he continued pursuing cricket with determination.[2]

Domestic Career

Siraj made his Ranji Trophy debut for Hyderabad during the 2015–16 season.

His breakthrough came in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season when he took 41 wickets in nine matches, finishing as Hyderabad’s highest wicket-taker.[3]

His impressive performances earned him selection for the Rest of India team and later for the India A squad for a tour of South Africa.

International Career

Mohammed Siraj made his T20 International debut for India against New Zealand in November 2017.

He later made his ODI debut in January 2019.

Siraj made his Test debut in December 2020 during India's tour of Australia. The series was especially emotional for him as his father passed away during the tour. Despite the tragedy, Siraj continued playing and played a major role in India’s historic 2020–21 Border-Gavaskar Trophy victory.[5]

Mohammed Siraj began his IPL career in 2017 when he was signed by Sunrisers Hyderabad for ₹2.6 crore.

Siraj delivered one of his best IPL seasons in 2023, taking 19 wickets and establishing himself as a top powerplay bowler.

Ahead of the 2025 IPL season, he was bought by Gujarat Titans for ₹12.25 crore.
