Manjot Singh (born 7 July 1992) is an Indian film actor who works primarily in Hindi cinema. He is best known for his debut role in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008), for which he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor, and for his recurring role as Lali in the Fukrey film series. He is also known for his performances in youth-oriented and ensemble comedy films.[1]

Early life and education

Manjot Singh was born in New Delhi into a Punjabi Sikh family. He completed his schooling at Hillwoods Academy, New Delhi. He had no prior acting experience and did not participate in school theatre or drama before entering films. His entry into cinema came through auditions, where he was selected for his natural screen presence.[2]

Career

Manjot Singh made his acting debut in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! (2008), directed by Dibakar Banerjee. Despite being a newcomer, his portrayal of the younger version of the protagonist was widely praised by critics, earning him the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor.

Following his debut, he participated in the reality show Fear Factor: Khatron Ke Khiladi Level 3 (2010). He later appeared in films such as Udaan (2012) and the Punjabi musical drama Pure Punjabi (2012).[3]

He gained wider popularity for his role as Dimpy in Student of the Year (2012), directed by Karan Johar. In 2013, he played Lali in Fukrey, which became a sleeper hit. He reprised the role in Fukrey Returns (2017) and Fukrey 3 (2023), establishing himself as a familiar face in Bollywood comedy franchises.

In 2019, he appeared in Penalty and Dream Girl, and made a cameo appearance in Student of the Year 2. He also had a brief appearance in Phone Bhoot (2022).

In 2025, Manjot Singh appeared in the comedy film Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2 alongside Kapil Sharma, marking his return to mainstream commercial comedy cinema.[4]
