Charli Grace D'Amelio (born May 1, 2004) is an American social media personality and dancer. She rose to fame through TikTok in 2019 by posting dance videos and quickly became one of the platform's most popular creators. She was the most-followed TikTok user from March 2020 to June 2022 and remains among the most-followed personalities on the platform.[1]

Early Life

Charli D'Amelio was born in Norwalk, Connecticut, to photographer Heidi D'Amelio and businessman Marc D'Amelio. She has an older sister, Dixie D'Amelio, who is also a social media personality.[2]

She began dancing at the age of three and trained as a competitive dancer for over 10 years before starting her social media career. She attended King School in Stamford, Connecticut, before switching to virtual education due to her growing online popularity.

Rise on TikTok (2019–2021)

D'Amelio started posting videos on TikTok in 2019, mainly performing dance routines to trending songs. She gained widespread attention for popularizing the "Renegade" dance.[3]

In 2020, she became the most-followed user on TikTok and the first person to reach 50 million and later 100 million followers on the platform. She joined The Hype House collective in 2019, further boosting her visibility.

She collaborated with major brands and appeared in commercials, music videos, and campaigns. She also launched a podcast with her sister and released her debut book Essentially Charli, which became a bestseller.
