Arne Slot (born 17 September 1978) is a Dutch football manager and former professional midfielder, currently serving as the head coach of Liverpool FC. Early Life and Playing Career
Arne Slot was born in Bergentheim, Netherlands. He began his football career with local side VV Bergentheim before making his professional debut with FC Zwolle in 1995. Throughout his 18-year playing career, he played for clubs such as NAC Breda, Sparta Rotterdam, and returned to FC Zwolle, amassing over 340 league appearances and scoring 70 goals. Slot was known for his vision and technical play, despite lacking pace.
He retired in 2013 after helping Zwolle secure promotion to the Eredivisie twice, in 2002 and 2012.[2]
Transition to Coaching
Following his retirement, Slot moved into coaching, beginning with youth coaching roles at PEC Zwolle and later serving as assistant coach at Cambuur. His managerial breakthrough came at AZ Alkmaar in 2019, where he was appointed head coach and gained recognition for promoting attacking football and nurturing young talent.
In 2021, he joined Feyenoord as head coach, achieving significant success:
