Arjun Kapoor (born 26 June 1985) is an Indian actor who works in Hindi films. He made his acting debut in 2012 with Ishaqzaade alongside Parineeti Chopra. He is known for his performances in films such as 2 States, Gunday, Half Girlfriend, Namaste England, and Kuttey.

Early Life and Family

Arjun Kapoor was born in Chembur, Mumbai, to film producer Boney Kapoor and Mona Shourie Kapoor. He is the grandson of filmmaker Surinder Kapoor. He is the nephew of actors Anil Kapoor and Sanjay Kapoor and producer Sandeep Marwah. He is the cousin of actress Sonam Kapoor and producer Rhea Kapoor. He is also the stepson of actress Sridevi.[1]

He has one sister, Anshula Kapoor, and two half-sisters, Janhvi Kapoor and Khushi Kapoor.

Kapoor completed his schooling at Arya Vidya Mandir School in Mumbai.[2]

Career

Early Work

Arjun Kapoor began his career in the film industry as an assistant director. He worked on the film Kal Ho Naa Ho (2003), starring Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Preity Zinta. He also assisted on the film No Entry.

Encouraged to pursue acting, he underwent a major physical transformation, losing around 50 kilograms before making his debut.[3]

Acting Debut and Breakthrough

Kapoor made his acting debut with Ishaqzaade (2012), directed by Habib Faisal. The film was a commercial success and marked his arrival in Bollywood.

He followed this with Aurangzeb (2013), which did not perform well at the box office. In 2014, he starred in Gunday alongside Ranveer Singh and Priyanka Chopra. The film was a commercial success and increased his popularity.[4]

In the same year, he appeared in 2 States opposite Alia Bhatt. Based on Chetan Bhagat’s novel, the film was a major commercial hit and crossed the ₹100 crore mark at the box office. He also appeared in Finding Fanny and Tevar in 2014.

Later Career

In 2017, Kapoor starred opposite Shraddha Kapoor in Half Girlfriend, directed by Mohit Suri. The film received mixed responses at the box office.

He reunited with Parineeti Chopra in Namaste England (2018), which did not perform well commercially. He later appeared in the historical drama Panipat (2019).

In 2023, he was seen in Kuttey, sharing screen space with Tabu, Konkona Sen Sharma, Naseeruddin Shah, Kumud Mishra, and Radhika Madan.

Other Work

Apart from acting, Arjun Kapoor has hosted award shows, including the IIFA Awards in 2015 alongside Ranveer Singh. He has also been associated with various brand endorsements and advertising campaigns.

Arjun Kapoor is known for being open about his personal journey, including his physical transformation before entering the film industry. He maintains close ties with his family and is often seen participating in family events within the Kapoor film family.
