Badshah
Badshah (born Aditya Prateek Singh; November 19, 1985) is an Indian rapper, singer, songwriter, music producer, and businessman. He is one of the most influential artists in Indian hip-hop and is widely credited with helping the genre reach mainstream popularity. Known for his energetic songs and commercial style, Badshah has delivered numerous hit tracks in Bollywood and independent music.[1]
Early Life and Education
Badshah was born in Delhi, India. Before entering the music industry full-time, he studied civil engineering at Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. During his college years, he developed an interest in Punjabi music and began writing rap lyrics, which eventually shaped his career.[2]
Career
2006–2012: Early career
Badshah started his career under the stage name "Cool Equal" before adopting the name "Badshah" on the advice of rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh. He was initially associated with the music group Mafia Mundeer. During this period, he worked on several tracks and contributed to songwriting and music production.
2012–2020: Breakthrough and success
He gained widespread recognition after his song "Saturday Saturday" was featured in the Bollywood film Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania (2014). He went on to release several hit songs including "Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai", "Kar Gayi Chull", and "Proper Patola".
In 2018, Badshah released his debut studio album O.N.E. (Original Never Ends). His 2019 song "Paagal" gained massive attention for its record-breaking views within 24 hours.
He made his acting debut in the film Khandaani Shafakhana in 2019.
2020–2023: Musical evolution
In 2020, he released The Power of Dreams of a Kid, an alternative hip-hop album reflecting his personal journey. He continued to release popular tracks like "Genda Phool" and "Pani Pani".
In 2022, he released the EP Retropanda - Part 1, featuring hit songs such as "Jugnu".[3]
2023–present: Recent work
Badshah released 3:00 AM Sessions in 2023, showcasing a more personal side of his music. In 2024, he released his album Ek Tha Raja, featuring collaborations with multiple artists.
In 2025, he released the EP Fitoor, his first independent project. He also announced the Paagal World Tour.
Controversies
Badshah has been involved in controversies, including disputes over songwriting credits and criticism of certain song lyrics. In 2026, his song "Tateeree" faced backlash for objectionable content, leading to its removal and later re-release with changes.[4]
Personal Life
Badshah married Jasmine Masih in 2012, and they have a daughter named Jessemy Grace Masih Singh. The couple divorced in 2020. In 2026, he married actress Isha Rikhi.[5]
Apart from music, Badshah is also involved in the hospitality business and owns several restaurants in India.
