Bill Gates (William Henry Gates III; born October 28, 1955) is an American businessman, software developer, and philanthropist. He is best known as the co-founder of Microsoft, one of the world's largest software companies. Gates played a key role in the personal computer revolution and became one of the richest individuals globally. Early Life and Education

Bill Gates was born in Seattle, Washington, United States. His father, William H. Gates Sr., was a lawyer, and his mother, Mary Maxwell Gates, served on several corporate boards. Gates showed an early interest in computers while studying at Lakeside School, where he learned programming.[2]

In 1973, he enrolled at Harvard University, where he studied mathematics and computer science. However, he dropped out in 1975 to pursue his business ambitions in software development.

Career

In 1975, Gates co-founded Microsoft with his childhood friend Paul Allen. The company initially developed programming languages and later became a global leader in software after launching the Windows operating system.

Microsoft's partnership with IBM in the early 1980s helped establish MS-DOS as a standard operating system for personal computers. The release of Microsoft Windows in 1985 further strengthened the company's dominance in the tech industry.

Gates served as CEO of Microsoft until 2000, after which he transitioned to a technology advisory role. He stepped down from the board in 2020.[3]
