Kylian Mbappe
Kylian Mbappé Lottin (born 20 December 1998) is a French professional footballer who plays as a forward for Real Madrid and captains the France national team. Widely regarded as one of the best footballers in the world, he is known for his pace, dribbling, and clinical finishing. He has won numerous individual honours including the Golden Boy award, Kopa Trophy, European Golden Shoe, and multiple Ligue 1 Player of the Year awards.[1]
Early Life
Kylian Mbappé was born on 20 December 1998 in Paris and was raised in Bondy, a suburb in northeastern Paris. His father, Wilfrid Mbappé, is a football coach of Cameroonian origin, while his mother, Fayza Lamari, is a former handball player of Algerian Kabyle descent. He has a younger brother, Ethan Mbappé, who is also a footballer.[2]
Mbappé attended a private Catholic school in Bondy and was considered academically talented. During his childhood he admired several football legends including Cristiano Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Thierry Henry, Ronaldinho and Lionel Messi.
Club Career
Monaco
Mbappé joined the youth academy of AS Monaco in 2013 and made his first-team debut in December 2015 at the age of 16, becoming the youngest player in the club's history at the time. During the 2016–17 season he scored 26 goals in all competitions and helped Monaco win the Ligue 1 title, their first league championship in 17 years.[3]
Paris Saint-Germain
In 2017, Mbappé joined Paris Saint-Germain initially on loan before completing a permanent transfer worth €180 million, making him the second most expensive football player in history at the time.
During his time at PSG, Mbappé won six Ligue 1 titles, several domestic cups, and helped the club reach its first UEFA Champions League final in 2020. He became PSG's all-time leading goalscorer with 256 goals and won the Ligue 1 Golden Boot a record six times.[4]
Real Madrid
In 2024, Mbappé joined Real Madrid on a free transfer after a long transfer saga. He quickly established himself as one of the team's most important players.
During the 2024–25 season he won both the Pichichi Trophy and the European Golden Shoe after finishing as La Liga's top scorer. He repeated his Pichichi success in the 2025–26 season and also finished as the UEFA Champions League top scorer.
International Career
Mbappé made his senior debut for France in 2017.
At the 2018 FIFA World Cup, he became only the second teenager after Pelé to score in a World Cup final, helping France win the tournament. He received the FIFA World Cup Best Young Player award.
He helped France win the UEFA Nations League in 2021 and won the top scorer award in the finals.
At the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Mbappé won the Golden Boot after scoring eight goals, including a hat-trick in the final against Argentina.
In 2023, he became captain of the French national team following the retirement of Hugo Lloris.
At the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Mbappé became France's all-time leading goalscorer and one of the highest goalscorers in World Cup history.[5]
Playing Style
Mbappé is known for his explosive acceleration, dribbling ability, agility and finishing. He can play on either wing or as a central striker.
His speed and intelligent movement make him one of football's most dangerous counter-attacking players. Due to his playing style and achievements, he has often been compared to Thierry Henry, Ronaldo Nazário and Pelé.
Personal Life
Mbappé is fluent in French, English and Spanish. He is a practicing Christian and has spoken publicly about the sacrifices he made during his teenage years to focus entirely on football.
As of 2026, Mbappé is reported to be in a relationship with Spanish actress and model Ester Expósito.
Philanthropy
Mbappé has participated in several charitable activities throughout his career. He has supported sports development initiatives in Africa and contributed financially to search operations following the disappearance of footballer Emiliano Sala in 2019.
He has also participated in wildlife conservation campaigns and awareness projects.
