Billie Eilish Pirate Baird O'Connell (born December 18, 2001) is an American singer-songwriter. Known for her distinctive musical style and soft, whispery vocals, she is one of the most influential pop artists of the 2020s.

She first gained attention in 2015 with her debut single Ocean Eyes, which was written and produced by her brother Finneas O'Connell. Her debut EP Don't Smile at Me (2017) achieved commercial success internationally.[1]

Early Life

Billie Eilish was born in Los Angeles, California, to Maggie Baird and Patrick O'Connell, both of whom are involved in music and acting. She grew up in the Highland Park neighborhood alongside her older brother Finneas.

Eilish was homeschooled, which allowed her to explore creative interests such as music, dance, and acting. She began playing the ukulele at a young age and joined the Los Angeles Children's Chorus at eight. She wrote her first song at age eleven.[2]

Breakthrough and Debut (2015–2019)

Eilish rose to fame with Ocean Eyes, which went viral on SoundCloud. In 2017, she released her debut EP Don't Smile at Me.

Her debut studio album, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? (2019), debuted at number one on multiple charts. The single Bad Guy became her first Billboard Hot 100 number-one hit.[3]

In 2020, she recorded the James Bond theme No Time to Die, which won an Academy Award.

Her second album, Happier Than Ever (2021), topped global charts and featured successful singles including Therefore I Am and Your Power.

She co-wrote and performed What Was I Made For? for the film Barbie (2023), earning another Academy Award.

Her third album, Hit Me Hard and Soft (2024), received critical acclaim and produced hits such as Birds of a Feather.
