Fardeen Khan
Fardeen Khan (born 8 March 1974) is an Indian actor and film producer who works primarily in Hindi cinema. He is the son of veteran actor and filmmaker Feroz Khan. Fardeen made his acting debut with Prem Aggan (1998), for which he won the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. After a successful phase in the mid-2000s, he took a long hiatus from films before returning with the web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar in 2024.
Early Life and Education
Fardeen Khan was born in Mumbai into a prominent film family. His father, Feroz Khan, was a leading Bollywood actor and filmmaker, while his mother, Sundari Khan, was also associated with cinema. He completed his schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School, Mumbai.[1]
Fardeen later moved to the United States, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Management degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He also received formal acting training in India before entering the film industry.
Career
Debut and Early Success (1998–2001)
Fardeen made his Bollywood debut with Prem Aggan (1998), directed by his father. Although the film underperformed commercially, his performance earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He gained wider recognition with Ram Gopal Varma’s Jungle (2000) and the psychological thriller Pyaar Tune Kya Kiya (2001).[2]
Commercial Phase (2002–2009)
During the mid-2000s, Fardeen became a familiar face in mainstream Bollywood cinema. He appeared in a mix of romantic dramas, thrillers, and comedies, including Bhoot, Fida, Dev, No Entry, Heyy Babyy, Life Partner, and All the Best: Fun Begins. No Entry (2005) emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of the year.[3]
Hiatus and Comeback (2010–present)
After Dulha Mil Gaya (2010), Fardeen stepped away from acting to focus on his personal life. Following a hiatus of nearly 14 years, he returned to the screen with Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s web series Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar (2024), where his portrayal of Wali Muhammad received positive critical and audience response. He is also set to appear in the upcoming film Housefull 5.[4]
Personal Life
Fardeen Khan married Natasha Madhvani, daughter of actress Mumtaz, in December 2005. The couple has two children, a daughter and a son. During his break from acting, he spoke publicly about personal challenges, including the loss of his father and family responsibilities.
