Anandajit Goswami (born 22 June 1980) is an Indian economist, academic, researcher, musician, and entrepreneur. Anandajit Goswami is known for interdisciplinary work spanning development economics, energy policy, sustainability studies, and socially engaged creative practice. Anandajit Goswami has been associated with academic and research initiatives at Ashoka University and Manav Rachna International Institute of Research and Studies (MRIIRS). Anandajit Goswami is the founder of the TOHRI Foundation, a non-profit organisation working in the areas of social empowerment, education, sustainability, and cultural engagement.[1]

Early life and education

Anandajit Goswami was born on 22 June 1980 in Kolkata, India, to Animesh Goswami and Gayatri Goswami. Anandajit Goswami pursued higher education in economics and energy policy and earned a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Energy Economics. Anandajit Goswami’s academic interests include development economics, energy economics and policy, climate change, and sustainable development.

Anandajit Goswami holds a Master’s degree in International Trade and Economics from Jawaharlal Nehru University and completed doctoral studies in energy policy at the TERI School of Advanced Studies.[2]

Career

Anandajit Goswami serves as Professor, Advisor, and Director at Manav Rachna Educational Institutions and is associated with the Manav Rachna Centre for Peace and Sustainability. Anandajit Goswami is a Senior Research Fellow and Research Lead at the Ashoka Centre for People-centric Energy Transition, Ashoka University. Anandajit Goswami has also held visiting and advisory roles at several academic and research institutions, including the MC Mehta Centre for Research and Education and the Impact Policy Research Institution.[3]

Anandajit Goswami has led and contributed to national and international research projects supported by organisations such as UNCTAD, UKAID, the Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank. Anandajit Goswami has provided policy and advisory inputs to ministries of the Government of India, NITI Aayog, and multiple state governments, particularly on issues related to energy transition, sustainability, and climate policy.[4]

Alongside academic and research work, Anandajit Goswami has been involved in institution-building and social initiatives through the TOHRI Foundation.[1]

Creative work

In addition to academic research, Anandajit Goswami is involved in music as a form of social expression. Anandajit Goswami’s creative work addresses themes such as violence, social responsibility, gender equality, and climate action. Anandajit Goswami’s musical compositions have received copyright registration and recognition from the Government of India.[5]

Publications

Anandajit Goswami has authored 13 fiction books and has been awarded the title of best author on three consecutive occasions. Anandajit Goswami has also published 52 peer-reviewed research papers in international academic journals and serves on the review boards of multiple journals focused on energy and sustainability studies.[6]

Philanthropy

Through the TOHRI Foundation, Anandajit Goswami has been engaged in initiatives focused on social empowerment, education, sustainability, and community awareness. The TOHRI Foundation has received recognition as the best social organisation for empowerment. Anandajit Goswami’s philanthropic work integrates academic research with cultural and creative approaches to address social and environmental issues.[7]
